Eight Pairs of Virtues,

One Philosophy of Balance.

An illustrated diagram of balancing virtues on opposite ends of a celestial circle, with night on the left and day on the right. On the left side, virtues listed from top to bottom are faith, forgiveness, common spirit, empathy, caution, humility, rest, and presence. On the right side, corresponding qualities are integrity, accountability, authenticity, fairness, connection, growth, contribution, and planning. Each virtue is connected by a colored line to its corresponding quality across the circle.

In a world characterized by extremes, The Eight Strings seeks balance and clarity.

The Eight Strings is a framework for achieving balance in life. The virtues on the left are passive approaches to life (like yin), while the virtues on the right are active approaches (like yang). Each string represents the struggle to balance the active and the passive approaches to life.

Tuning the strings means to work on particular points of tension. Tuning the first string, presence — planning, means working on living mindfully while also living intentionally. Tuning the second string, rest — contribution, means working on your work-life balance. And so on.

For help tuning the strings, check out The Eight Strings Poetry to read the poems for each string.
